The first opportunity to take the SAT this fall is on October 6, 2007. The registration deadline is September 10, which is the Monday during the first full week of school. The next two testing dates are November 3 (deadline to register is October 2) and December 1 (deadline to register is October 30).

Below are some tips for getting mentally ready for the SAT:

1. Study regularly for the test, but do not significantly alter your schedule and routines. Complete your regular schoolwork and attend class. Getting out of your routine can add unnecessary stress.

2. Eat and sleep. Caffeine-induced, all-night cram sessions are not the most effective way to prepare for any test. Staying healthy, getting exercise, eating right, and getting sufficient sleep is imperative to retaining what you study.

3. Work toward not only studying what may be on the test, but work to understand how the test will be scored, the number of sections, the contents of each sections, the time given for each, and how to approach each. Having an overview of what you are going to encounter will help you relax and be more focused.
